Guide to diamonds: everything you need to know about diamonds. Because a diamond is forever.

The diamond, with its timeless beauty, is one of the most precious stones with which you can enrich the most important moments of your life. Eldorado Jewels offers a vast selection of diamond jewellery, as an authorized reseller of all the brands you can find on our online store.

DIAMONDS: THE 4Cs

Each diamond is unique, no two are alike. However, there are parameters that help us establish its value and quality. They are the so-called4C: cut, clarity, color and carat. Like any diamond, lab-grown diamonds are also evaluated through these 4 criteria. Knowing them in detail through our guide will help you understand which stone is best suited to your needs.

CUT

The cut is what gives shape and personality to the rough stone, transforming it into the finished diamond. A job that is a real art, in which you need to know how to create the perfect balance between angles, proportions and symmetries. The cut is what allows the light to reflect best on the surface of the diamond: the more faceted the cut, the more brilliant the stone will be. The diamonds and precious stones of our Live Diamond brand are all cut and polished by hand and are of two types, brilliant and baguette. The baguette cut, with 25 facets, has a rectangular shape: simple and tapered, it is one of the most iconic and recognisable. The round brilliant cut, with 57 facets, is the one that best enhances the shine of the stone.
Among the most researchedDiamond guide: discover the perfect diamondcateof the diamonds there are the square, teardrop or heart-shaped ones. While among the most loved ones, we find the round-shaped diamond, which can have from 57 to 58 reflections, thus making the diamond the most sparkling jewel of all.

CLARITY/CLEARNESS

Clarity indicates the transparency and homogeneity of a cut diamond. During its formation, both in nature and in the laboratory, imperfections invisible to the naked eye, called inclusions, are created. The fewer there are, the more brilliant the diamond will appear. At the same time, inclusions are what make each stone unique, a bit like its identity card. Live Diamond diamonds have a minimum clarity of SI (Small Inclusions).

COLOUR

Diamonds have a range of different shades: from ice white, to pink to yellow. The absence of color is an important parameter to determine its value, which is measured through a scale that goes from D to Z: D indicates the purest white, Z the warmest shades.

Live Diamond works with diamonds classified with minimum quality G and H, two very pure shades of white that allow light to refract, creating wonderful reflections.

CARAT/CARATURE

The carat is the universal measurement unit of diamond: one carat is equivalent to approximately 1/5 of a gram. The weight of the diamond determines its size, therefore its diameter. Our stones have a wide range of carats, ideal to meet your needs: from the most delicate to the most important ones, each is perfect for celebrating your precious moments.

ELDORADO JEWELS IS A PARTNER OF LIVE DIAMOND

Live Diamond is the Italian brand of diamonds and precious stones grown in the laboratory. Live Diamond jewelery is made from 100% recycled gold to be even more sustainable and socially responsible. Diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires give life to perfect jewels to celebrate precious moments with special attention to respect for the environment and human rights.

The Live Diamond diamonds are grown in the laboratory through a cutting-edge process that allows natural conditions to be replicated but in an accelerated and more sustainable way.

Live Diamond gemstones are born from a fragment of diamond or other stones, which is "grown" like a seed inside a greenhouse. In the laboratory we recreate the same conditions that exist in nature and in which traditional stones are formed: thus the fragments grow much faster than what happens in nature.

A cutting-edge and more sustainable process because it significantly reduces the social and environmental impact of the production of precious stones. In this way, deep excavations are limited and greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy consumption are reduced. Safety conditions and workers' rights are also guaranteed. The result is ecological diamonds, rubies, emeralds and sapphires with the same physical, chemical and optical properties as traditional stones: carat, colour, clarity and cut remain unchanged.

CERTIFICATIONS

IGI (International Gemological Institute), the largest independent gemological laboratory in the world, certifies the quality of Live Diamond diamonds with carats starting from 0.30 and precious stones with carats above 0.65. The recycled gold that is used for Live Diamond jewelery is certified by the Responsible Jewelery Council, one of the major authorities in the field of jewelery and watchmaking.

Recycled gold is produced from metals no longer in use but which still have of potential, all coming from RJC certified sources. After being melted at high temperatures they are reintroduced into the production circuit: in this way we reduce the use of raw materials and avoid the extraction process, with all the associated risks.

Is a lab-grown diamond a real diamond?

A lab grown diamond is a diamond in all respects. It has the same physical, chemical and optical properties as traditional diamonds because in the laboratory we are able to reproduce the exact same conditions that we find in nature. Its distinctive characteristics are the same as traditional diamonds: colour, clarity, carat and cut and are certified by IGI, the International Gemological Institute.

What makes lab-grown diamonds sustainable?

Lab-grown diamonds are sustainable because they significantly reduce environmental impact and are socially responsible. Laboratory growth avoids the deep excavations that occur in mines with a 95% reduction in water consumption, 54% in energy consumption and 96% in CO2 emissions*. The process is completely traceable and respects the human rights and safety conditions of workers.

*Average values relating to the production of 1 carat lab grown compared to 1 carat extracted.

How are lab-grown diamonds produced?

The lab-grown diamonds we use for our jewelry are produced in the laboratory from a diamond fragment, through two methods. The first, HPHT, reproduces the high pressure and high temperature conditions that occur in nature over millions of years. The second, CVD, allows the diamond to grow thanks to the deposition of substances that are the basis of its molecular structure. Their combined action leads to the creation of a rough diamond exactly as happens in nature, but in a way that is much more respectful of the environment and people's work.

Where are the diamonds we use produced?

The production sites for Live Diamond diamonds and gemstones are located in Asia, mainly in India and Thailand, and in the United States. Suppliers are required to adhere to the Kimberly Process certification system, which supports the integrity of the diamond supply chain. We also favor RJC (Responsible Jewelery Council) certified suppliers.

Do you know the difference between diamond and brilliant?

Many people wonder what the difference is between "diamond" and "brilliant". The diamond represents the precious stone of extreme value, while the brilliant refers to a particular type of cut, namely the round cut. This type of cut, thanks to its specific characteristics, allows the best shine of the stone to be obtained. To understand the real difference between diamond and brilliant, it is important to point out that any stone, such as zircon, can be brilliant cut, but this does not make it equivalent to a diamond in terms of value and rarity.

How to clean and preserve your diamond

To maintain its beauty and value unchanged over time, it is advisable to follow a few essential precautions. To clean and preserve your diamonds, diamonds should be periodically washed in warm water with a common degreasing detergent, using a soft-bristled toothbrush for scrubbing. After washing, it is essential to rinse thoroughly, always using a toothbrush. It is good practice to store diamonds within their original containers. If this is not possible, we recommend storing them separately, avoiding them coming into contact with each other.

These simple cares will ensure better conservation of your diamonds over time. Regardless of size, a piece of jewelery is an investment in memories and durability, as happiness is intrinsically linked to our precious moments.

Thanks to our diamond guide you will now be able to choose the perfect diamond for your special occasions and add a touch of timeless luxury to the most precious moments of your life. Remember that choosing a diamond is a personal decision, and a diamond with characteristics that reflect your style and personality will always be best for you.
